Thanks for the feedback!
Personality:
Freed from Hydra, Bucky is lost and confused, but determined to find out who he is and what he’s lost. When he’s at the museum at the end of Winter Soldier, he’s shown staring not at the pictures of Steve but at his own picture and biography, searching it for answers. With no one to give orders, it’s overwhelming, so Bucky goes into survival mode, focusing on his own mental and physical recovery from what Hydra put him through. A lot of it is just him figuring out how to exist in the world as a person without a whole team of people caring for him, ordering him around, and watching his every move.
We actually do get a glimpse of where this attitude leads in Civil War, where we see how Bucky’s ability to lay low has kept him from being found by the authorities for two years, and he probably would’ve been able to stay under the radar indefinitely if it weren’t for the UN bombing. He just wants to live a quiet life, figuring himself out, without hurting anyone.
But that’s in the future, in a world Bucky knows. Newly free from Hydra and tossed into a completely new world, his skills will have to be drastically adapted in order to work, or he’ll have to fall back on old habits. So his growth will reflect that--will he fall into what he’s familiar with, and essentially be the Asset for his faction, will he break away from his life as a killer, or will he find a balance?
As far as relationships, while the Bucky before Hydra was a supportive, loyal friend who made fast friendships with his teammates and was an easy charmer with more short-term relationships, Hydra wanted a loyal dog that was more weapon than man, so they ground out as much of his personality as they could, leaving a creature that was, for the most part, docile to its masters while still being a vicious predator. After Hydra, he’s paranoid, hypervigilant, and suspicious of anyone who tries to be friendly. What do they want? Are they a member of Hydra, or some government agency trying to take him in or take him down? But he’s not an unfeeling machine, and he understands the importance of allies and support… which may eventually translate into friendship and trust.
Sample:
As far as this goes, as a fair warning, Bucky won’t be inclined to use the network to make his own posts for a while when he arrives. He’s wary of showing his face or revealing his identity in a way that can’t be fully controlled--if he makes a post, he won’t be able to hide that from any Hydra loyalists or government agents who might be after him. Furthermore, if he did decide to make a post, it would probably be very short and to the point, asking for information that he can’t get from other means, or for some reason doesn’t trust the regular source of. With that in mind, here’s a revised sample.
[Locked to the Moon faction, the Soldier… Bucky? James. James will work for now. James makes a text post, because showing his face or recording his voice is just too much of a risk. He doesn’t know who’s here, but if the wrong people see him… even his name showing up is an enormous risk, but at least without a face or voice to attach it to, the people who don’t know anything about him won’t be able to point him out to the people that do.
So. Text it is.]
